CITIZEN ASSEMBLIES
THE FIRST CITIZEN ASSEMBLY IN GIPUZKOA IS UNDERWAY: THE RURAL ENVIRONMENT AND THE CLIMATE.
The Gipuzkoa Citizen Assembly is already underway, and will focus on agricultural activity and climate change. It is promoted by the Telesforo Monzón Laboratory of ideas(TMeLab) and the Arantzazulab Social Innovation Laboratory, and will be implemented by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.
32 Gipuzkoa province citizens chosen by lottery will be called to participate in this innovative Citizen Assembly in which they will have to answer the following question: how can we guarantee the agricultural activity of Gipuzkoa to face the climate emergency?
This Citizen Assembly is the culmination of the project presented almost a year ago to Etorkizuna Eraikiz by the Telesforo Monzon Laboratory of Ideas (TMeLab) and the Arantzazulab Social Innovation Lab. This project has been developed with the collaboration of national and international consultants, experts in deliberative democracy (OECD, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Deliberativa Association).
It is a pioneering and innovative process that aims to invite citizens to participate in the deliberation on relevant public issues such as agriculture and climate change.
The process has the support of all the political groups represented in the Provincial Assembly. The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa will receive from this Citizen Assembly a series of recommendations to be used to guide its agricultural policy actions in the coming years.

PREVIOUS WORKSHOPS:
TMeLab has been studying the value that deliberative democracy models can have when taking measures to combat climate change. For this reason, in recent months we have organized two conferences in collaboration with Mondragón Unibertsitatea, Arantzazulab and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.
Deliberative Democracy in the 21st Century
The Telesforo Monzón laboratory od ideas (TMelab), Mondragon Unibertsitatea (MU) and Arantzazulab, organized an online reflection conference. The theoretical and practical framework of the citizen assembly was discussed. What are citizens’ assemblies for and what are their limitations, as well as their importance in the deliberations to be made on climate change. National assemblies from different countries were analyzed, gathering different experiences and sharing reflections from experts.
The video of the conference is available on our website.

What will be the basis of the Basque identity at the beginning of the 21st century? Are we assured of the survival of our identity? What are our risks and strengths, as well as our threats and opportunities? What will be the pillars for the reproduction of the Basque identity in this century of transformation? What are our challenges as a people? The aim of this conference has been to debate and reflect on all this among different people. We have talked about identity, we have analyzed examples of other peoples, we have talked about the Basque identity in the Basque Country and in the world, and about the challenges and ways to reproduce it in the 21st century.

Welfare and its indicators.
The health emergency has had a direct impact on the factors that influence the welfare of society. And precisely because of this, if the COVID19 pandemic has contributed anything, it has been the need for policies that place the person at the center of political activity. All this has highlighted the need to delve deeper into people’s well-being and the factors that influence it. And many questions arise about the concept and the indicators for measuring it.
Thus, with the aim of analyzing well-being and its indicators, the Telesforo Monzon laboratory of ideas (TMeLab)and the GEZKI Institute of the UPV/EHU, under the direction of professors Felix Arrieta and Enekoitz Etxezarreta, coordinated by Malen Domínguez Zabala, from TM eLab, organized a conference on this topic.
The conference is now available on our website:
